GROWING PLUMERIAS FROM SEEDS

GROWING PLUMERIAS FROM SEEDS IS ONE OF THE ONLY WAYS TO GET A NEW VARIETY. MOST OF THE TIME WHEN THE SEEDS BLOOM IT WILL NOT BE THE SAME AS THE MOTHER PLANT. GROWING PLUMERIAS FROM SEEDS IS FUN AND REWARDING THE BLOOMS WILL CHANGE COLOR 3 TIMES THE THIRD TIME WILL BE THE FINAL COLOR, PLUMERIA SEEDLINGS HAVE TO BE ABOUT 2 1/2 TO 3 FT TALL BEFORE IT WILL BLOOM THIS COULD TAKE ABOUT 3 GROWING SEASONS ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF, IF PLANTED IN THE GROUND IT WILL GROW FASTER AND BLOOM SOONER. THE FIRST PICTURE IS A PLUMERIA SEEDPOD IT TAKES ABOUT 9 MONTHS TO MATURE, WHEN THE SEEDPOD STARTS GET DARK BROWN AND WRINKLED IT WILL START TO SPLIT OPEN THIS IS THE TIME TO PUT A NYLON AROUND IT TO CATCH THE SEEDS THAT FALL OUT. TO START GROWING PLUMERIA SEEDS FIRST YOU MUST GET SOME SEEDS THEN GET YOUR SOIL I USE 50% SUPER SOIL AND 50% COIR AND A HANDFUL OF PEARLITE PUT SOIL MIX IN A POT AND PUT THE SEEDS IN WITH THE WING PART STICKING OUT OF THE SOIL AS SHOWN IN THE PICTURE, THEN WATER THE SOIL AND PUSH THE SOIL AROUND THE SEEDS TO GET GOOD CONTACT, I LIKE TO PUT A PLACTIC BAGGIE OVER THE POT SO THERE WILL BE HUMIDITY ITS LIKE A GREENHOUSE. IN ABOUT 7 TO 10 DAYS THEY WILL START TO GERMINATE. PLUMERIA SEEDLING GROW FAST AFTER THE FIRST YEAR THEY SHOULD BE ABOUT 8 TO 12 INCHES IN HEIGHT SO ITS INPORTANT TO REPOT TO BIGGER POTS THROUGH OUT THE GROWING SEASON. IN THE WINTER WHEN THE PLANTS GO DORMANT ITS A GOOD IDEAL TO KEEP THE PLANT INSIDE BUY A WINDOW WITH SOME BOTTOM HEAT TO KEEP IT FROM GOING DORMANT, TRY TO KEEP IT GROWING THROUGH THE WINTER. GROWING PLUMERIAS FROM SEEDS IS A GOOD WAY TO ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION WITH LITTLE COST. I WILL POST SOME MORE PICTURES WITH THE PLUMERIA SEEDLINGS IN DIFFERENT STAGES OF GROWTH. HAVE A GOOD GROWING SEASON.
